The cost of bike insurance is largely due to statistics. Knowing the different factors that affect how much you pay for your insurance premium can help you save money when renewing or taking out a new policy.

Many factors can play a role in determining your insurance costs. The elements that affect how much you pay for your premium can include: type and style of bike, age and sex of the rider, bike security and bike mileage – to name but a few.

Bike insurance providers take into account the potential for theft or damage to your bike. If you show evidence that you can protect your bike from getting stolen or damaged then you can lower the cost of your insurance. Therefore, consider where you store your bike – it’s best to keep your motorcycle in a locked garage at night. Also, ensure your bike is secure with an approved security device.

Speeding convictions can lead to higher insurance costs. Insurance savings can be gained by maintaining a good driving record and avoiding any points on your license. By driving safely and cautiously you can not only maintain the condition of your bike, but also benefit from a no claims bonus when renewing your bike insurance.

If you are an experienced or older rider then it is possible to achieve discounts on your insurance. Statistics show that older bike owners tend to make fewer claims, whilst younger bike owners are a higher risk for accidents. However, young riders don’t just need to wait for nature to take its course. Riders that have passed their Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) can see a reduction in insurance premiums if they achieve a full license. Further discounts may be achieved with some bike insurers if the rider passes the Institute of Advanced Motoring’s Advanced Motorcycling Test.

Bear in mind that more powerful bikes and older bikes pose a higher risk to insurers. The type, make, style and age of the bike you own will all have an impact on the cost of your premiums and should be taken into consideration prior to purchase. The older the bike and more miles it has driven will lead to wear and tear making it more likely to break down. Likewise, high mileage each year on a newer bike can also lead to maintenance problems.

The cost of bike insurance premiums can vary widely among insurance providers. You can find great deals on bike insurance by shopping around but it’s more important to compare policies with the type of cover that best suits your needs.

These cruiser-style minibikes roared up and down Irving Street in the Middle Sunset, causing a few sensitive pedestrians to cover their ears. How wude! But it was just like The Wild One with bad boy Marlon Brando and goode girl Mary Murphy right in front of the Quickly, except in color, and with frogurt instead of beer.

Why not get one for yourself? Just 300-something bones will get you started.

You see them zooming by on the neighborhood streets and you pass it off as just some guy on a dirt bike. But then you get a closer look and realize it’s a lot smaller than the average dirt bike you’ve seen and a kid is driving it. Then you think to yourself, That’s pretty cool; I wish they had those when I was a kid.”

The truth is it only looks like a motorcycle but isn’t really one at all. It runs on batteries, hardly makes any noise, goes about 17 miles per hour and weighs just 100 pounds. It doesn’t have a clutch or any gears to worry about, and it’s a heck of a lot less expensive than a real motorcycle too at just around $399. We’re talking about the Razor Electric Motorcycle, namely the high powered Razor Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross MX650.

With one of these cool rides parked in your garage, you can zoom around your neighborhood at a fast clip while your friends pedal as fast as they can to keep up on their bicycles. With a 10-mile run range from a single charge, you can ride your Razor Electric Motorcycle for about an hour before you have to charge it again.

If money is really an issue, you can also check out the Razor Pocket Rocket Mini Electric Motorcycle, which is quite a bit smaller but also really low to the ground so you feel like you’re flying when you’re really only topping out at about 15 miles per hour. Offering 45 minutes of continuous run time, this Pocket Rocket will only cost you about $249.

And at only $230 there is yet another bike still to consider. The Razor Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross MX350, which goes upwards of 14 miles per hour and can also go about 45 minutes on a single charge. This cool Razor Electric Motorcycle weighs just 72 pounds and will run you only about $229.

Now all you need to do is get the money together and to get one. If your birthday is coming up, that’s a good option for you. If you have a paying job, then you’re in good shape there. But if neither of those is the case for you, you can always ask dear old mom and dad for a new Razor Electric Motorcycle in exchange for good grades, extensive housework, watching your little sister and so on.

Everyday we are feasting our eyes on different types of motorcycles – big, small, vintage, modern, classic and flashy.

Actually, there are three basic categories of street motorcycles – touring, cruisers and sports bikes. However, modern design can incorporate some of the qualities of the other category. Nonetheless, let us stick with the basics and discuss them one by one.

Touring motorcycles are so-named because of their equipments that are primarily designed to withstand long rides. Riders will feel comfortable even when on a protracted ride. Usually, touring bikes have hard-shell trunks on either side of the fender, windshields, full fairings, in-dash audio equipment (sometimes include GPS) and a dashboard. They also have high rounded back with armrest so that the riders will be at ease while riding. Examples of this category are Harley-Davidson’s Road King and Honda’s Gold Wing.

Cruisers and choppers on the other hand, are not that heavy as compared to touring bikes. They are sleek, beautiful, captivating and are closely related with the legendary cruisers and customized choppers. In addition, they are somewhat perceived as cool and trendy. Choppers use a frame with a front fork extended and raked beyond the standard stock cruiser. As we can observe choppers are hot once again. They are enjoying the ongoing paranoia and hype. In fact, there are featured customized cruisers and choppers that are gaining its media exposure and success.

If racing is your cup of tea, you will be highly delighted with sports bikes which are also called café racers. Sports bikes encourage a different sitting posture. The usual thing is that rider’s feet must be put in front, in a sport bike, it puts the rider’s feet underneath him. Thus, the rider’s tendency is to lean forward over the gas tank with the shoulders and the head straight. This was specifically designed to make quick and accurate turns. Sport bikes are great for nerve-racking riding adventures. Nonetheless, they are not basically used for long and steady trails. Examples of this category are Honda’s Interceptor, Yamaha’s TMAX and Ducati’s Supersport.

When it comes to off road motorcycles, they are primarily designed to be tough and sturdy. Example of this kind is dirt bikes which are designed to conquer rough, difficult and grimy treks. They usually designed with tall frames and high tailpipes so that they will not bottom out. These bikes do not have street gear or license plates. To compensate this, they are given yearly green stickers by the Department of Motor Vehicles for the owners and riders alike to ride in off-road parks.

PC Hans Monahan and PCSO Mark Braithwaite with the seized mini motorbikes (28807/3)pm PC Hans Monahan and PCSO Mark Braithwaite with the seized mini motorbikes (28807/3)pm.

Police in Calne have issued a warning that mini motorbikes used on public roads will be seized and crushed following a recent spate of complaints.

Calls from residents reporting the bikes being used on roads and pavements are becoming more frequent in Calne and police officers have found themselves with a collection of confiscated bikes that will be crushed or auctioned.

PCSO Mark Braithwaite seized a mini moto and a 110cc scrambler from two 14-year-old boys on April 12.

The seizure followed a call reporting the bikes being used in Sandpit Lane with no lights or helmets.

PC Hans Monahan said: “We received a report from a member of the public about youngsters using mini motos on the road.

“It was dark by this time so it was very unsafe for them to be riding around.

“Mark tracked them down and both bikes were seized.

“This will be crushed and will serve as a warning to others that riding these vehicles on public roads without the correct adjustments having been made and with no documents is not allowed.”

Police are reminding riders that the same laws apply to mini motos as all other vehicles, so users must be over 16, wear a helmet and have the relevant driving licence or L-plates.

The bike must also be registered with the DVLA, have a number plate, insurance and tax.

PC Monahan said: “These bikes can be used on private land but, once on a road, all the obligations of a road user apply.

“These youngsters did not have helmets and they are vulnerable.

“Mini motos are an on-going anti-social behaviour issue and police will seize them as and when they can, and offending persons will be reported accordingly.”

The 14-year-olds have both been reported for motoring offences.

In the past police officers in Calne have arrested people for driving mini motos whilst under the influence of alcohol.

Pc Monahan said: “Once on the road, normal road rules apply and you can be arrested for drink driving on a mini moto.

“These are not very safe vehicles and they also cause distress to other road users.”

As the 2008 AMA Supercross Lites West region champion, Lawrence is eligible for a bye to race in the finals, though he may choose to compete in the qualifying rounds to get better accustomed to the minibike.“Yeah, I haven’t really thought about that yet,” says Lawrence of his strategy. “I’ve got a couple mini bikes, but I’m sure they’re not nearly as fast as what BBR’s putting together for me. I’m pumped to ride it, really. Friday at the Orleans is gonna be a blast.”

AMA Racing suspended Lawrence for the remainder of the AMA Supercross season on April 20 for an on-track altercation with competitor Broc Hepler. Lawrence’s appearance at the MiniMotoSX gives the race some star power but AMA officials aren’t likely to be pleased about it.

BBR, the industry leader in adult four-stroke playbike performance technology, and Lawrence got together when Lawrence showed some interest in possibly checking out the MMSX on Friday prior to the Monster Energy Supercross finals in Vegas the following day.

“I thought it’d be something fun to check out,” said Lawrence of the MMSX. “BBR was down with setting up a bike for me and I thought, ‘Yeah, let’s go for it.’”

Gas powered Scooters are making a comeback as the preferred mode of transportation.

No longer are they just for kids. Gas powered scooters are rapidly taking over as the preferred method of transportation to work and school. They are economical, can maneuver through tight spaces and with a gas scooter, you can take short-cuts that an automobile can not.

Gas powered scooters are also known as mopeds which is a two-wheeled (normally) low powered vehicle. In most states its small size and low power output allow it to escape many of the licensing, insurance, and driver restrictions placed on motorcycles. However, be careful of the true description of moped.

a. A moped is traditionally defined as a motorized 2 wheel vehicle that is part human and part motor driven. A moped has pedals so that it can be propelled by human power. As you can see, gas powered scooters do not fit most states definition of moped.

Don’t fret though, a gas scooter used properly will not get you into any trouble in most places. If used responsibly and traffic laws are obeyed, most law enforcement won’t touch you.

Gas scooters were first introduced in the mid 1950’s. The first design was little more than a bicycle with an engine mounted on it, it was called a cyclemotor. The cylcemotor can still be seen on the road these days in the form of electric bikes.

One reason some people have a gas scooter is to circumvent loosing a driver’s license. Many states don’t require a driver to have an operator’s license if they are over eighteen years of age, sixteen in some states. They also don’t require insurance and registration.

Gas powered scooters have several advantage that should be noted.

a. No parking spots required. Some gas powered scooters can fold down for easy storage right in your office, or you can tie it up at the door with the bicycles right in front of the buildings door or on the sidewalk.

b. A gas powered scooter is faster than the average electric scooter. They can travel at speeds up to thirty-five miles an hour.

c. Gas powered scooters can maneuver rather well – A gas powered scooter is a great way to move through traffic. They dart in and out between cars, especially gridlocked traffic. Imagine sleeping in an extra twenty-thirty minutes. With the time you save avoiding traffic, you can afford to. how smart are you?

d. Gas scooters have very cool body styles; some gas powered scooters look more like miniature motorcycles than scooters.

e. Gas scooters save tons of money – While the cost of gassing up gas powered scooters might seem expensive compared to the low cost of running an electric scooter, the mileage they get quickly makes up for the gallon of gas they require.

f. Maintenance is a breeze- A Gas scooter is easy to maintain. With a basic grasp of tools and a decent book about mechanics most people are able to maintain their gas powered scooters in their own garage.

The best thing about a gas scooter is the freedom to literally go just about anywhere. While you ride your scooter along the trail or the beach, you can go more places than most automobiles. Hop on your new gas scooter and get ready for a new adventure. Take a minute and smell the roses or take in the sights like never before. What more could you ask for?

A crackdown on dangerous mini-motorbikes has been launched by police in West Bromwich.

In total eight off-road mini motocross bikes have been seized by officers since the beginning of the Easter holidays less than three weeks ago.

Police in the town and across Sandwell are using special scrambler bikes to track down nuisance riders after complaints started flooding in at the beginning of the month. They will now be compiling weekly lists of hotspot areas to be targeted, after a similar campaign ran last summer.

During this period a total of 35 mini-motos were impounded after being driven illegally. The majority of these were crushed.

In 2008 police in West Bromwich took four people to court over their use of the bikes and issued 77 warnings to people using bikes illegally. A further 21 people were reported for traffic offences and six stolen bikes recovered.

//–>

Buoyed by the success of the campaign they decided to start even earlier this year. Sergeant Bob Hartill, of West Bromwich Road Policing Unit, said: “We have already started to get complaints so we started the crackdown months early.

“At the beginning of the Easter holidays we were getting 23 complaints a week, but it is now down to around 12.

“We have already seized eight bikes, issued eight Reform Act warning notices and arrested two people, with five people reported for road traffic offences.

“People may see these bikes as fun, but if they are ridden irresponsibly they can be dangerous.

“There have been deaths in other parts of the country and it needs to be made clear that misusing these machines could prove fatal.”

Sergeant Hartill said that he expects most of the mini motos seized during this summer’s campaign will be crushed.

He said: “People can claim back their bikes if they pay a fee, but relatively low value means that very few people do.”

Last year residents from West Bromwich held public meetings following problems with the bikes on local towpaths, with complaints also made about youngsters riding bikes in Victoria Street and Queen Street in Tipton.

The mini-moto bikes can reach speeds of up to 60mph and have caused deaths and serious injuries in other areas around the country.
